A year old now, the Opera Lounge has effortlessly established itself as one of Baku's hippest venues since it opened back in May 2009. More lounge bar than its clubbier competitor Face, Opera is all about louche comfort - deep sofas in warm, comforting coffee and cream tones, set off by mood lighting and mauve highlighted pillars. Fashion TV plays on plasma screens throughout,
fortunately with volume down so you can appreciate the musical offerings, which include a nightly live jazz set from their excellent house band, as well as live acts and guest DJs from all over Europe, playing a wide range of styles. There is also a proper fine dining setup, serving excellent - if pricy - food from European and Japanese menus and a small but serviceable dance floor. The management also runs one off events, such as karaoke with live band accompaniment, both here and at other larger venues in and around town, which they promote heavily with posters and flyers around town and on citylife.az and their own website.
